Steven Holl released the first image for his new Maggie’s Cancer Care Center in London (pictured left); the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, led by John Palmieri, is planning a mixed-use development project for Atlantic City’s blighted South Inlet; Linda Pollak’s firm celebrated the ribbon-cutting of a new pavilion and outdoor performance space at the Staten Island Children’s Museum.

 The National Academy Museum and School (above) elected Patron Steven Holl and Gregg Pasquarelli as Academicians; ASLA elevated Henry White to its Council of Fellows; the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation, founded by Beverly Willis and currently led by Wanda Bubriski, received an NEA Art Works grant to support their “Making A Place for Women in 20th-Century American Architecture” project.

Matt Blesso’s Blesso Properties is breaking ground on the Pavilion nightclub on Fire Island after it was destroyed in a November 2011 fire; only his second project in the UK, Patron Steven Holl will design a hospital for Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre; David Manfredi unveiled plans to redesign the Suffolk Downs racetrack in East Boston, adding a casino and resort; former New York Knick Clyde Frazier opened a restaurant in West Midtown designed by Board Member Thom Mayne’s Morphosis Architects (pictured at left); the nonprofit arm of John Palmieri’s Casino Reinvestment Development Authority will put on a video and light show to attract visitors to Atlantic City; Robert A.M. Stern will design the American Revolution Center in Philadelphia; Donna Walcavage served as the landscape architect for the newly open Polo Grounds Community Center in West Harlem.

Last Friday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Achva Stein gave a tour of the new Moroccan Court, followed by cocktails on the roof; also on 6/15, Rick Bell’s Center for Architecture hosted the AIA New York Chapter’s 145th Annual Meeting, where Lance Jay Brown is the 2013 First Vice President/2014 President-Elect; last Saturday in Shanghai, Board Member Thom Mayne spoke at the XXL Supertall Buildings conference co-hosted by Tonji University and USC; while 6/16 in the South Bronx, Kaja Kuhl hosted a workshop about her phytoremediation project; Laurie Kerr was at the Center for Architecture on 6/18 for a talk about “NYC’s Net Zero School”; Architecture for Humanity is having an online auction, running from 6/19 through 6/29, featuring work by Patron Steven Holl, Daniel Libeskind, and Moshe Safdie; Jack Nyman’s Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute is hosting the day-long Advanced Energy Performance: Real Estate’s New Energy Asset Management Paradigm conference (pictured above) on 6/21, where both he and Laurie Kerr will speak.

At the AIA National Convention, Susan Chin was elected to the national AIA Vice Presidency, Patron Steven Holl won the AIA Gold Medal, and the firms of Board Member Thom Mayne and Robert Rogers won Honor Awards; the New York chapter of ASLA announced their Design Awards, with Thomas Balsley’s firm taking home four awards, and the firms of Michael Manfredi, Barbara Wilks, and Henry White each receiving one; the Graham Foundation announced their 2012 Grants to Individuals, with Nina Rappaport and June Williamson both receiving awards to support their respective publications about photographer Ezra Stoller and designing suburban futures; Phil Enquist will be honored with Openlands’ 2012 Conservation Leadership Award at a luncheon in October; Matthew Berman’s workshop/apd won a Building Brooklyn award for their BLDG 92 at the Navy Yard (pictured at left); the Society for Marketing Professional Services awarded Board Member Claire Weisz’s studio with an Industry Award for their Battery SeaGlass Carousel.

David Briggs’ Loci Architecture was selected to design a new home for Brooklyn Prospect Charter School; an HOK team led by Kenneth Drucker won the competition to design a new medical school at the University at Buffalo; an art gallery by Patron Steven Holl’s firm recently opened outside of Seoul (pictured at left); Daniel Libeskind is delving into product design, and unveiled his collaboration with an Italian door manufacturer; the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation has selected Barbara Wilks to redevelop St. Patrick’s Island on the Bow River.

Rick Bell appeared on NBC New York’s Nonstop to discuss the Center for Architecture’s exhibits about Middle Eastern architecture; Bell also traveled to Albany with Susan Chin for Architects in Albany Lobby Day at the state capital; Bauwelt magazine featured an article about Richard Dattner and Andrew Whalley’s Via Verde affordable housing project; David Dixon presented more details about Goody Clancy’s master plan for the redevelopment of downtown Sandy Spring, GA to 200 local residents and stakeholders; in an article on the Atlantic Cities, Anthony Flint questioned the longevity of the new urbanism movement; Julie Iovine wrote about Board Member Toni Griffin’s new J. Max Bond Center in Architect’s Newspaper; Vitamin Green, a new book out from Phaidon about ‘eco-inventions,’ features work by Patron Steven Holl; Kaja Kuhl’s Phytoremediation project (pictured below) was featured in Urban Omnibus; John Palmieri spoke to the Washington Post about his Casino Reinvestment Development Authority’s plans for Atlantic City.

On Sunday, “Civic Action: A Vision for Long Island City” opened at Socrates Sculpture Park with work by Mary Miss; this Friday, 5/18,  Nina Rappaport’s “Vertical Urban Factory” exhibit both closes at NYU and opens at MOCAD in Detroit; Ronnette Riley and Richard Rogers will participate in the “Guess-a-Sketch” competition and benefit at the Center for Architecture on 5/22; also on 5/22, Tom Angotti will be at the AIA San Francisco to discuss his new book, Service Learning in Design and Planning; Linda Pollak speaks about Marpillero Pollak’s new Dutch Kills Green park at a “Public Space Potluck” in Long Island City on 5/23 (pictured above); Craig Dykers will be in Prague on 5/26 to give a keynote at the reSITE Festival; Jack Nyman’s Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute hosts a day-long symposium entitled “Battery Park City: Coming of Age” on 5/31; that evening, June Williamson will be at Van Alen Books to discuss the design and culture of parking; an exhibit of Patron Steven Holl’s work at the Meulensteen Gallery closes on 6/2.

In an interview with New York, Craig Dykers outlined Snøhetta’s proposal for a revamped Times Square; Princeton University submitted plans for their new Arts and Transit project, with work by Patron Steven Holl, to the Regional Planning Board of Princeton; the Boston Redevelopment Authority approved the development of a residential complex designed by David Manfredi (pictured above), one that will include micro-apartments, or so-called ‘innovation units’; Robert A.M. Stern will design a residential tower next to Hudson Yards.

During the month of April, Larry Wayne Richards was a Visiting Professor at the National Cheng Kung University Department of Architecture in Tainan (Taiwan), where he also presented a lecture, “Is Everything the Same Now?”; Patron Denise Scott Brown will be at the Center for Architecture on Friday (5/4) for a conversation about the National Mosque of Baghdad competition; the final tours of David van der Leer’s stillspotting nyc exhibit will take place on 5/5 and 5/6 in Jackson Heights, Queens; Board Member Saskia Sassen will be at the Frieze Art Fair on 5/6 for a panel about land occupation; on 5/8, Rick Bell will introduce a moderated discussion about “Practice in the Middle East” at his Center for Architecture; the next day in D.C., Lance Jay Brown will be at the National Building Museum to present on public space in the nation’s capital; Sassen will also be at the Megaprojects symposium hosted by Columbia’s GSAPP and CURE on 5/11, and will then participate in the New Cities Summit in Paris (5/14-16), along with Daniel Libeskind; an exhibit of Patron Steven Holl’s work is now on view at the Meulensteen Gallery through 6/2; also on now through 7/29 is an exhibit about Buckminster Fuller at SFMoMA (image from exhibit pictured at right) that includes work by Board Member Thom Mayne.
