At the AIA National Convention, Susan Chin was elected to the national AIA Vice Presidency, Patron Steven Holl won the AIA Gold Medal, and the firms of Board Member Thom Mayne and Robert Rogers won Honor Awards; the New York chapter of ASLA announced their Design Awards, with Thomas Balsley’s firm taking home four awards, and the firms of Michael Manfredi, Barbara Wilks, and Henry White each receiving one; the Graham Foundation announced their 2012 Grants to Individuals, with Nina Rappaport and June Williamson both receiving awards to support their respective publications about photographer Ezra Stoller and designing suburban futures; Phil Enquist will be honored with Openlands’ 2012 Conservation Leadership Award at a luncheon in October; Matthew Berman’s workshop/apd won a Building Brooklyn award for their BLDG 92 at the Navy Yard (pictured at left); the Society for Marketing Professional Services awarded Board Member Claire Weisz’s studio with an Industry Award for their Battery SeaGlass Carousel.

The lead project in teNeues’ recent book, New York Rooftop Gardens, is by Matthew Berman’s Workshop/APD; James Dart’s work in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans is included in a new book about design’s role in disaster recovery; a team at SOM lead by Phil Enquist announced the firm’s The Great Lakes Century initiative (pictured at left); in preparation for the Regional Assembly on 4/27, Jeff Ferzoco and his colleagues at the RPA launched an interactive town hall to engage the public about the future of New York’s metropolitan region; along with NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Charles McKinney spoke at length to Landscape Urbanism magazine about New York’s High Performance Landscape Guidelines; Matthias Sauerbruch’s firm has been shortlisted to develop university apartments as part of an urban extension plan for the University of Cambridge.

In Sandy Springs, GA, David Dixon’s firm, Goody Clancy, will develop a downtown master plan focused on improving commuting conditions; last week, a team from SOM lead by Phil Enquist presented new details about their Lakeside development project of a former US Steel plant on the South Side of Chicago; Eric Galipo was on the team from H3 whose campus master plan was recently approved by the Board of Trustees at Adelphi University; John Palmieri’s Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has released a new master plan for Atlantic City designed by Jon Jerde’s Jerde Partnership; Mary Margaret Jones and her firm, Hargreaves Associates, presented their design concepts for Destination Bayfront to a 250-person audience in Corpus Christi, TX; Emerson College broke ground on their new L.A. campus building designed by Board Member Thom Mayne; last Thursday, Gregg Pasquarelli presented SHoP’s vision for Pier 17 in Lower Manhattan’s South Street Seaport to Community Board 1 (pictured at left).

SOM’s team lead—by Phil Enquist—was selected to develop the master plan for Beijing Bohai Innovation City (pictured at left); Reflections at Keppel Bayon, Daniel Libeskind’s first residential project in Asia, will open in Singapore on 3/22; Michael Manfredi’s firm has been selected to develop the master plan for the National Geographic Headquarters in D.C.; Lyn Rice’s firm Rice + Lipka will redesign the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit in conjunction with James Corner Field Operations.
