Fellow Shane Coen has been selected to serve on the General Service Administration’s National Registry of Peer Professionals, and will advise the GSA Public Buildings Service over the next two years. This appointment follows a winning entry in the 2010 Design Excellence Awards for Landscape Architecture for the U.S. Land Port of Entry in Warroad, Minnesota (pictured at left).

Georgia Tech’s College of Architecture, led by Alan Balfour, recently completed the $9.5 million renovation of their new home, the Hinman Research Building, in Atlanta; Thomas Balsley and Shane Coen will both serve on the jury for ASLA’s 2011 Student Awards; Construction of the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s BNYC 92 facility, designed by Matthew Berman, is in full swing, and the building will open in November 2011; Craig Dykers’ Snøhetta has been shortlisted in the competition to design the Victoria & Albert’s Exhibition Road expansion; Newport’s lavish Bellevue Avenue has been enlivened by a series of Heritage Trail-esque markers by Ronald Lee Fleming’s Townscape Institute; Chad Floyd recently penned a paean to energy efficiency at Jetson Green; Anthony Flint joined the debate about a “new kind of Modernism” at ArchitectureBoston; The NY Observer interviewed Daniel Libeskind about his continued involvement in the reconstruction process at the World Trade Center; Jonathan Schrag spoke to Risk.net about the future of carbon trading in the US; and Henry M. White will design a new network of public spaces at a planned neighborhood in Chandigarh, India (pictured at left).

The extension of the Queens Theatre-in-the-Park (pictured at left), designed by Sara Caples’ firm Caples Jefferson, was recently selected [pdf] as New York Construction’s Cultural Project of the Year; Ohio State University’s Knowlton School of Architecture recently honored Fellow Susan Chin with a Distinguished Alumnus Award for her work as the Assistant Commissioner for Capital Projects at the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs; Shane Coen’s Warroad Border Station was chosen by the 2010 GSA Design Awards jury for a Citation in Landscape Architecture, Honor Awards for Architecture and Engineering, and another Citation for Interior Design; and Bruce Fowle was presented with a trophy acknowledging FXFOWLE’s 15 years of involvement in the Canstruction NYC contest.

The Association of Architecture Organizations’ 2010 Annual Conference, Design In Action, will feature a talk by Rick Bell today, 11/15, in Chicago; Shane Coen (pictured at left) will deliver the lecture “Context Informs Form” at Harvard’s GSD on 11/17; IfUD friend Mary Miss will be honored at the NY-ASLA President’s Dinner on 11/18; the recently-opened Nordic Models + Common Ground, an exhibition of contemporary Nordic art and design curated by Craig Dykers’ firm Snøhetta, will be on view at Scandanavia House in Midtown Manhattan through 3/9/11.

Friday, February 1st, 2008Fellow Shane Coen’s firm Coen+Partners appeared in Worlds Away: New Suburban Landscapes, a traveling exhibition organized by the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. The exhibition looked at the connection between the suburban condition and contemporary art, and included artists Ed Ruscha, Dan Graham, and Catherine Opie. More
