Fisher’s CityWide program on CUNY-TV premieres at 10:00 AM on 10/20; Board President Michael Sorkin will speak about his work on the US pavilion at the Venice Biennale at the Architectural League’s Workshopping New York on 10/20; Ethel Sheffer and Sheena Wright will both participate in panels during the Municipal Art Society’s Summit for New York City on 10/21-22; Rodolfo Machado’s Bowdoin Museum of Art renovation is included in the Maine Modern exhibition at the Storefront for Architecture in Portland, ME, now through 10/31; Mattias Sauerbruch’s winning design for the M9 Museum (pictured at left) will be on view in Venice along with the other competition entries now through 11/21.

The Municipal Arts Society of New York will host a day-long conference Land Use & Local Voices: Is the City’s Land Use Process in Need of Reform?, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM next Wedesday, July 21. The event’s panels will explore various perspectives on New York City’s land use process and consider proposals to improve it. As the IfUD’s next Breakfast Club, scheduled for the following Wednesday, July 28, will cover the city’s ongoing charter revision process as it pertains to land use and project approvals, Fellows may want to attend the MAS event to bone up on their land use knowledge in advance!
Michael Sorkin Moderates Discussion on Future of NYC Streets

Michael Sorkin, Chair of the Institute’s Board of Directors and author of Twenty Minutes in Manhattan, moderated a panel discussion at Scandinavia House on the future of New York City’s streets. The panel, Are New York’s Streets Out of (Design) Control, was hosted by the Municipal Arts Society as part of its tour series, New York’s Changing Streetscapes.
Denise Scott Brown: New Book, Talk, Discussion

Following a talk about her new book, Having Words, Institute patron Denise Scott Brown will be joined by architects Sarah Whiting and Hilary Sample for a panel discussion moderated by Paola Antonelli, senior curator of architecture and design at MoMA on Thursday, November 12th at 6:30pm at Urban Center Books. The event is free but reservations are required.
