A video by Philip Enquist’s Great Lakes Project (which, we recently discovered, has a great new blog) lays out a broad vision for the Great Lakes region; Ken Greenberg stopped by Global Toronto’s Morning Show to discuss his international slate of urban design projects; David Manfredi spoke about his design for the Edgewater Hotel in a video clip about the Madison project; NJBIZ spoke to John Palmieri about his plans for New Jersey’s Casino Reinvestment Development Authority; and Elisabetta Terragni’s Trento Tunnels project (image at left) was featured in a video about Future Mind Award winners.

The Wall Street Journal spoke to Richard Dattner about his design for a new salt shed in Manhattan’s Hudson Square neighborhood (pictured at left); Board Member Winka Dubbeldam has been quite popular at New York magazine lately — the publication  featured a slideshow of her design for singer John Legend’s new Bowery apartment, as well as a fascinating debate between Winka, Fellows Gregg Pasquarelli and Robert A.M. Stern, and several other NYC luminaries on the city’s greatest building; the New York Times looked at Phil Enquist’s master plan for the redevelopment of a massive former US Steel complex on Chicago’s South Shore; Vince Ferrandino was interviewed by WestfairOnline as part of a special report on civic leadership; Architectural Record announced that Daniel Libeskind will design a mixed-use complex on the mainland side of a bridge connecting Sicily to the Italian peninsula; David Manfredi presented his firm’s plans for Kendall Square at a community meeting in Cambridge; Architect took a look at Moshe Safdie’s Marina Bay Sands complex; and Curbed featured a sizable set of images of Claire Weisz’s recently-unveiled plans for Manhattan’s Astor Place/Cooper Square area.

Urban Hybridization: Call for Papers

Fabrizio Zanni, Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at Politecnico di Milano, Italy presents Urban Hybridization, exploring theories, methodologies, and application case studies of urban design in contemporary forms of sprawled cities and metropolitan landscapes. In its call for papers, the event is looking for “research papers and viewpoints that focus on the major themes of Urban Hybridization that are directly related to the urban and architectural design.”

The international urban design symposium, chaired by Milan’s Commissioner for Urban Development Carlo Masseroli, celebrated the opening of several revitalized areas in northwest Milan, the potential site of the Milan Expo 2015.

The congress titled “Transmitting Architecture” featured the Institute for Urban Design in the discussion on urban centers alongside UCM, Urban Center Metropolitano Torino; Casa della Citta’ di Catania; and SPUR, San Francisco Planning + Urban Research Association.
