The Institute is well-represented on the list of winners of this year’s AIANY Design Awards: Patron Steven Holl received an Honor Award in Architecture for the Horizontal Skyscraper project in Shenzhen; Board Member Thom Mayne’s Phare Tower design in Paris (pictured at left) was recognized in the Unbuilt Work category; Fellow Bruce Fowle’s FXFOWLE scored two awards, both in New York with partners Diller Scofidio + Renfro (in Architecture for the Hypar Pavilion and in Urban Design for the Lincoln Center Public Spaces); and Claire Weisz for the NYC Information Center in Times Square. All honorees will be recognized at an award luncheon at Cipriani Wall Street on April 12th, 2011.

Philip Enquist Leads SOM Chicago to Win International Design Competition for Beijing, China

Skyscraper Museum Presents: Shanghai Skyline

On Tuesday, October 13, the Skyscraper Museum will host their fall kick-off lecture and reception, Shanghai Skyline.
Architectural Record Editor-in-Chief, Robert Ivy, will moderate a panel including Paul Katz, Institute fellow Bruce Fowle, Jack Portman, David Scott, and Timur Galen, who will recall how they snagged Shanghai commissions in the 1980s and ’90s, illustrate recent projects, and reflect on the relevance of the past recession for today’s downturn.
Institute for Urban Design History Lecture, Tongji University, Shanghai, China
Wednesday, June 13th, 2007Institute executive director Olympia Kazi lectured at Tongji University in Shanghai about the history and evolution of the Institute for Urban Design. Following the presentation was a question-and-answer session with professors from the departments of Architecture, Preservation and Urban Planning about the latest strategies in design policy and the development of affordable housing.
