We are pleased to announce that Claire Weisz, a longtime Fellow of the Institute, has joined the organization’s Board of Directors. Claire was instrumental in the development of the concept for By the City / For the City, and will also serve on the competition jury next month. Welcome, Claire!

Mayne & Griffin Speak at MICD’s 25th Anniversary Conference

Board Member Thom Mayne (pictured at left) was invited to give the opening keynote at the 25th Anniversary meeting of the Mayors Institute on City Design in Chicago on April 27th. Another member of our Board of Directors, Toni Griffin, also addressed this prestigious gathering of mayors from across the United States. Board Member Matt Blesso (pictured at left) was recently profiled in the Wall Street Journal for his impressive roster of charity work; also, the New York City DOT announced its selection of the design team that will plan the permanent revamp of Times Square, and the winning group includes Fellows Craig Dykers of Snøhetta and Claire Weisz of WXY Architecture + Urban Design.

We’d like to welcome Tami Hausman and Brenda Levin to the Institute’s Board of Directors. Before founding her own company, Hausman LLC, Tami worked in marketing and public relations for several major architecture firms. Brenda is a land-use and community outreach consultant currently working with Columbia University on their Manhattanville expansion plans. We’re excited to draw on their expertise as the organization continues to evolve.

Thom Mayne to Judge Sukkah City

Board of Directors Expands

A new and expanded Institute board of directors was appointed, comprising media artist Maria Antelman, urban planner Maxine Griffith, attorney Craig Kaplan, writer Cathy Lang Ho, sociologist Saskia Sassen, and the architects Thom Mayne, Enrique Norten, Gregg Pasquarelli, and Michael Sorkin (chair). Institute founding director Ann Ferebee took an emerita role.
