Fellow’s Firm Wins Sustainability Prize

Engineering firm WSP Flack + Kurtz, led by Fellow David Cooper, was recently received the Best Overall Sustainable Design Award for 2010 Best Practices. Cooper’s firm is being recognized (along with project partners Ratcliff Architects) by the Energy Efficiency Partnership Program for Higher Education Buildings for the design for the California-based De Anza College Mediated Learning Center (pictured at left). Congratulations from the IfUD community to David and everyone at WSP Flack + Kurtz!

Robert A.M. Stern Announced as Dreihaus Laureate

Fellow Robert A.M. Stern has been named as the winner of the 2010 Dreihaus Prize for Classical Architecture. Stern will be presented with this prestigious award (trophy pictured at left) during a ceremony in Chicago on March 26.

Fellow Patricia Lancaster Named a NYWA Star

At the New York Women’s Agenda’s recent 2010 Star Breakfast, Fellow Patricia Lancaster, president and CEO of the Lancaster Group and the first woman to ever serve as the commissioner of New York City’s Department of Buildings, was presented with an award honoring her leadership. Congratulations, Patricia!

Stern Takes Home 2010 Landmarks Lion

On Wednesday, October 27th, the Historic Districts Council presented Fellow Robert A.M. Stern with the 2010 Landmarks Lion award at the Four Seasons restaurant in New York. The award honored Stern’s efforts to preserve historic buildings and neighborhoods around New York City. The text of his acceptance speech is available here [PDF].

Newman Architects Wins Two AIA-CT Awards

Fellow Herbert Newman’s firm Newman Architects was recently presented with two 2010 Design Awards by the AIA Connecticut. In the Built Design Category, Newman was honored for the renovation and expansion of the North Branford Intermediate School, and the comprehensive renovation of John Edwards College on the Yale Unviersity campus (pictured at left) was honored in the Preservation Category. Contratulations to Herbert and everyone at Newman Architects who worked on these projects!

Steven Handel Awarded National Honor Award for Research

Congratulations to Institute fellow Steven Handel who was awarded the National Honor Award for Research for a series of studies exploring ecological restoration processes to enhance urban landscape design from the American Society for Landscape Architects and the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.
