Upcoming: APA Panel on Public-Private Mega-Projects

The APA NY Metro Chapter’s Economic Development Committee, in collaboration with the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate, will present a panel discussion on Public-Private Mega-Projects Shaping the Region on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, from 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM. The event will take place at the NYU-SCPS Midtown Center @ 11 West 42nd Street, Room 421.

Panelists will include Lynn Kelly, President of the Coney Island Development Corp., Paul Januszewski, President of the Queens West Development Corp., Bronson Fox, Vice President of the Moynihan Station Development Corp., and Andrew Manshel, Executive Vice President of the Greater Jamaica Development Corp.

The event is being organized by IfUD Fellow Bissera Antikarov along with her APA NY MCEDC co-chair Tom Jost, and will be moderated by James P. On March 22nd, APA NY Metro Chapter and AIA NY will host a panel discussion called Planning for a Sustainable Future: Can We Achieve Integration at the Regional Level? The discussion will take place at 6:30pm at the Center for Architecture (536 LaGuardia Place, NYC). RSVP here.

Schmidt Accepts Award from APA California

Institute fellow Paul Schmidt, AIA accepted the Distinguished Leadership Award for a Public Agency at the APA -American Planning Association’s California statewide conference in Squaw Valley, California. His agency, Capitol Area Development Authority has received several commendations for thirty years of planning and redevelopment in downtown Sacramento.

Honors were given at the San Francisco 2009 AIA Convention to the projects and firms of the following Institute fellows: Philip Enquist (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP) received the 2009 AIA Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design for Southworks Lakeside Chicago Development, Chicago / Bruce Fowle (FXFowle Architects) received the 2009 Institute Honor Awards for Architecture with Renzo Piano Building Workshop for The New York Times Building / Professor Steven N. Handel (Rutgers University) and board member Enrique Norten (TEN Arquitectos) received the 2009 AIA National Honor Award for Regional and Urban Design for the Orange County Great Park master plan, in California. This project also won the 2009 APA National Planning Excellence Award for Innovation in Regional Planning / Lyn Rice(Lyn Rice Architects) won the 2009 AIA Honor Awards for Interior Architecture for the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center in New York City / Donald J. Stastny, FAIA, FAICP (StastnyBrun Architects) was the recipient of the 2009 AIA Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture / Andrew Whalley (Grimshaw Architects) received the 2009 AIA Honor Awards for Architecture for Horno3: Museo del Acero, Monterey, Mexico
