The NYC Department of Transportation will host Walk21, a three-day conference on October 7-9, 2009. Institute board chair Michael Sorkin will give a keynote speech, and Institute fellow Chris Hardwicke will present on “How Retail Food Availability Shapes Walking Patterns.” Featuring a mix of plenaries, workshops, and poster sessions, Walk21 will also host “walkshops” which will showcase New York’s most innovative new projects – from the new pedestrian spaces in Times and Herald Squares to projects in neighborhoods in all five boroughs.
